Each gas company is expected to ensure its supply in its distribution area. There is no single gas transmission system operator (TSO) as trunk line networks have developed separately around LNG terminals and are often not connected to each other. The country is very active both in the region and globally, and successfully initiated the “LNG Producer-Consumer Conference”, held every year since 2012 to facilitate dialogue among key stakeholders. Japan’s long-term gas security policy relies on diversifying its long-term supply contracts and on ensuring these contracts include enough flexibility to increase imports during an emergency. There is no obligation for the industry to hold emergency gas stocks nor to report stock levels, which might hamper situational awareness in a disruption. In 2019, Australia was the largest supplier, representing less than half of total imports. Japan’s natural gas supply is well diversified. With its archipelago geography, Japan’s imports are entirely in the form of liquefied natural gas, through 37 dedicated LNG import terminals. While Japan produces more gas than oil, domestic production is still very limited, bringing the dependence on imports to over 90%. The 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and subsequent Fukushima nuclear accident resulted in the closure of all nuclear plans, which led to an increase in the demand for natural gas. If Abe wants to bring the hikikomori back into society, it might require changing that culture, too.The share of natural gas in Japan’s total energy supply increased significantly over the past decade, driven by growing demand from the electricity generation sector. “Doctors, aware of the sensitivity of the families, avoid diagnosing major psychopathology to the extent that it is possible,” she wrote in a 2008 paper. Princeton cultural anthropologist Amy Borovoy has argued that the reason Japan has comparatively low self-reported mental illness isn’t an indication of society-wide mental health, but heavy stigma. A 2011 pilot study found that similar sorts of social withdrawal exist around the world surprisingly, some Japanese clinicians thought it didn’t demand intervention, while other countries recommended hospitalization. The researchers reference a 2008 study of 97 clinical hikikomori patients which found that 26 percent had anxiety disorders, 8 percent had schizophrenia, and 23 percent had some sort of personality disorder - indicating that what manifests as hikikomori may be the result of one or more underlying, and possibly underdiagnosed, conditions. A 2010 Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease paper proposed that hikikomori is used by laypeople to describe other mood disorders that they may not be familiar with, and that mental-health professionals may use it as a gentler way to talk about other issues, since clinical depression and its ilk are so highly loaded. The prevalence of hikikomori also speaks to the culture of mental health in Japan. It could be that “overdependent” youths grew up in smothering families where they never gained autonomy or learned to trust people “maladaptive interdependent” youths grew up in dysfunctional families, leading to bullying and unsatisfying relationships at school and “counterdependent” youths are so burdened by high academic and career expectations that they withdraw. From a health perspective, that kind of self-enforced solitude is brutal: American researchers have found that loneliness poses an increase of risk in mortality comparable to obesity.Ī 2015 review proposed three possible reasons someone might turn hikki. Now, Takahashi reports, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe wants to mobilize the nation’s shut-ins to contribute the world’s third-largest economy as it faces a massive population drop. Linguistically, the word a combination of the hiku, or “draw, pull” and komoru, or “seclude oneself.” The standard definition is “acute social withdrawal.” The phenomenon was first identified in 1978 as “withdrawal neurosis,” then further described by Japanese psychiatrists in the 1990s, before turning into a subject of national and international interest in the 2000s, being added to the Oxford English Dictionary as a loanword in 2010. The Japanese government defines them as people who have stayed at home for at least six months and haven’t had any social interactions beyond their family, Maiko Takahashi reports for Bloomberg. They’re called hikikomori: the 541,000 people across Japan between ages 15 and 39 who live as shut-ins. France Has More Babies Than Everybody in Europe Because of Day Care and Prussia

The Enterprise is basically riding a bubble of regular 3-D space while the universe changes around it. It compresses space in front of the craft and expands it behind. Instead, a warp drive bends space itself. Like an Einstein-Rosen bridge, warp technology skirts around the impossibility of accelerating a ship past the speed of light. Even if you’re not a fan of the various Starfleet adventures that have hit our screens over the last 50 years, you’re probably familiar with terms like “warp factor five.” Warp technology is synonymous with the Star Trek series. Fairly high, considering how many of Einstein's predictions have been proven right. On the other hand, physicists like Stephen Hawking and Kip Thorne have theorized wormholes could be theoretically stabilized with the right amount of energy. Fuller argued such a bridge would collapse too quickly. A 1962 paper by John Archibald Wheeler and Robert W. Some spoilsport scientists claim a wormhole caused by some sort of supermassive black hole would likely be too unstable to go through. Einstein-Rosen bridges are key to Rick and Morty’s various misadventures the mad scientist’s portal gun can open doorways to other galaxies and parallel realities. Wormhole theory also allows for the possibility of traveling between universes. 2, while the Revengers escape from Sakaar through “The Devil’s Anus” in Thor: Ragnarok, described by Bruce Banner as “a neutron star colliding with an Einstein-Rosen Bridge” (read: plot device). Similar doorways are shown as part of a galactic superhighway system in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. Invading aliens open a wormhole-like portal over New York city in The Avengers. The Bifrost that allows Thor to travel from Asgard to Earth is explicitly described as an Einstein-Rosen bridge by Dr. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is littered with wormholes. Here are some of the most popular kinds of fictional FTL travel, and how they rate in reality. Others just kind of made it up as they went along. Some writers have drawn on real science and principles to explain their physics-bending technology. The genre is full of examples of starships that can zip across the cosmos at speeds that are highly convenient. We haven’t cracked the faster-than-light (FTL) ceiling yet. Let’s just say you’re going to need a lot of podcasts for the trip. (opens in a new tab) We don’t have a spaceship that can go faster than the speed of light the fastest speed we can reach using nuclear power is 4.5 percent of lightspeed. With current technology, it would take us a century to reach Alpha Centauri. Even within our solar system, massive distances make travel timely and difficult to plan. Alpha Centauri – the nearest star system to our own – is more than 4 light years away. Space is big, as Douglas Adams famously wrote (opens in a new tab) in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Finally, in 2019, Maeson unveiled his debut full-length album, Bank on the Funeral, a dynamic set that combines empowering rock anthems with poignant folk ballads. He took to the road for his first headlining tour around the U.S., bringing venues like Irving Plaza and Observatory North Park to capacity, while he worked on songs for his debut EP, Who Killed Matt Maeson? The following year, he dropped a second EP, The Hearse. Minimum required purchase quantity for these notes is 1. The arrangement codefor the composition is PVGRHM. In 2015, he began posting songs to SoundCloud, which caught the attention of a representative at Neon Gold Records. As a young adult, he struggled with drugs and even landed in jail, but soon found a sense of salvation in creating his own music. Through it all, his parents forbade him to listen to rock music, but that didn't keep him out of trouble. Maeson's parents played in Christian metal bands, and he took up drums and guitar as a child to join them on tours around the country, performing in maximum-security prisons and at biker rallies. It's a far cry from the music he played growing up in Virginia. Matt Maeson's bluesy, rock-infused alt-folk manages to sound big, bold and intimate all at once, as he mixes raw folk songwriting with anthemic, pop-inspired production. That same year, he even got a chance to sing on stage with one of his favorite artists, Lana Del Rey. In 2019, he continued to spend most of his days on the road, for the Bank on the Funeral Tour and The Day You Departed Tour, both in support of his debut album. headlining tour, Maeson landed coveted slots at festivals like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza. While he would stray far from his roots for his own solo career, that experience helped shape his high-powered performance style. The singer/songwriter toured with his parents, playing Christian heavy metal and performing at prisons across the U.S. Matt Maeson's introduction to the stage was far from ordinary. This paper reports on the results of a study into the use of microblogging technology (TodaysMeet) in large, multi-site lectures in a nursing program. Depending on context, the focus of ePortfolio can be on learning and skills, achievements or future goals. Further on, it is described what possibilities there are for further improvement and development trends for ePortfolio. In this paper, a detailed comparative analysis of an ePortfolio platform has been done, and the current state, advantages and disadvantages, the possible application and the reason why the ePortfolio platform stands out from other available platforms is presented. It also allows students to recognize their strong and weak points and ways of improving their knowledge. An ePortfolio encourages students to engage in career development by providing opportunities to demonstrate abilities, discipline, knowledge and work activities during their education to employers. ePortfolio platforms have proven to be an excellent solution to the changes needed in today's higher education. So far, it has been sufficient for universities to organize internships for students, where after students would have the opportunity to be employed however, new technologies have completely altered ways of doing business, and nowadays it is expected that students have already acquired theoretical knowledge and had practical experience before applying for an internship or their first job in order to face global competition. The goal of every university is to provide students with the highest quality of education and acquired knowledge additionally, the goal of universities is to help students in their professional career development. “Log files” track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps. Meanwhile, the double LP The Very Best Of The Electric Light Orchestra gathers the 20th century hits. Out Of The Blue is a double album with some of their finest music.Ī version of the band, called Jeff Lynne’s ELO, re-appeared some years after the band disappeared, releasing two new albums in the 2010s. The albums A New World Record and Discovery were massive hits in many countries. (Remember “See My Baby Jive”?) Lynne took over the conductor’s baton and guided the band to world-wide success, with hit singles including “Can’t get it out of my head” and “Do ya” (a Move song). Roy Wood left early, forming his own band Wizzard. When they first began performing as ELO the band had a real string section, fulfilling the ‘O’ part of their name. Lynne and Wood shared a desire to produce pop songs with classical influences while both were also huge Beatles fans, especially the lush arrangements and structures of the Magical Mystery Tour era. After Birmingham-formed psychedelic adventurers The Move folded, Jeff Lynne, Ron Wood and Bev Bevan morphed into the Electric Light Orchestra. It let you use a large grid to prototype new sites, or parts of existing sites, by creating relationships between icon representations of the site’s parts. The Design feature, redubbed Diagrams in version 6.0, was one of GoLive 5.0’s most helpful. A variety of site features extend this approach: an Errors tab that shows problems with site links and missing files FTP and WebDAV (Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning) tabs for incremental or full site synchronization with remote servers and an Extras tab containing two kinds of templates, one with locked areas and one that’s fully editable. The program organizes a site’s pages and media files into a graphical site window, and dragging files into or out of folders that correspond to the pages rewrites all the links to them and within them. One of GoLive’s strengths is site organization and maintenance. An expanded Syntax Checker lets you check a page’s code against several major standards, and it produces a clickable report of errors. Since that review, Adobe has revamped both the writing and checking of code in GoLive. Are You Good HTML or Bad HTML?Ī major complaint in our review of GoLive 5.0 (mmmm Reviews, December 2000) concerned the program’s inability to write pages that passed the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) validation test, which checks for well-written HTML that browsers can interpret without a hitch. A long-unresolved, incomplete feature shows all links on a page as “links.” This means that you have to edit source code to insert link triggers such as clicks and mouseovers. Adobe includes more than 80 Actions in GoLive 6.0.īut support for JavaScript has not been improved: GoLive has a JavaScript text editor, but if you have problems with your code, you’re on your own. These Actions are ordinary yet difficult-to-write activities for which GoLive includes standard code libraries, as well as a friendly palette that hides the complexity of the code. Several versions ago, GoLive introduced interface-driven JavaScript and DHTML, which it calls GoLive Actions. One notable improvement is version 6.0’s updated Tables palette, which displays exact pixel dimensions in previous versions, you had to examine each cell in a row and add padding and spacing to create an absolute pixel measurement for a table’s width. When the 909 area code was created in 1992, it quickly gained a negative reputation. “Maybe people come from these areas with an attitude because Orange County is labeling them.” “Maybe it’s causing some rivalry,” she said. She conceded, though, that labeling people from the Inland Empire ‘909ers’ may not help ease the tension. Susie Smith, owner of Makin Waves Salon on Main Street, said some visitors seem to “come with a chip on their shoulder and think we have more things or a better life than they do, and they don’t respect our community.” “I’d prefer if they just didn’t come at all.” People that come down to destroy instead of protect,” he said, declining to give his name because of the possible repercussions. “We’re trying to defend our beaches from people that don’t live there. Urban Dictionary takes its own shot at the 909, describing it as “a great place to live between Los Angeles and Las Vegas if you don’t mind the meth labs, cows, and dirt people.”įor the 21-year-old grad student who created the Facebook page, the tipping point was the night of violence on Main Street, which he insisted was caused by 909ers. For others, it conjures up an image of young people absorbed with dirt-bike gear and lifted trucks. For some, it’s just a catchall for the Inland Empire. There is no agreed-upon definition of a 909er. This is a city that thrives on tourism but has an increasingly tense relationship with tourists. But in Huntington Beach, there is no escaping the 909 - or the 951, the 760, or any other area codes from which the city’s 15 million tourists arrive every year. Yet a stereotype based on an area code persists. “Like it’s some crime to be from some other part of California and come to our beach.” “I hate the term ‘909ers,’ ” said Connie Boardman, the beach city’s mayor. Though the event drew thousands, there were few problems. Someone even created a Facebook page called Go Home 909ers, warning that “Southern California Beaches are for LOCALS ONLY.” When an end-of-summer beach rave was staged this month, some worried about the 909ers it might attract. By the next day, residents in Huntington Beach and neighboring beach towns pointed toward the Inland Empire as the source of the bad behavior.
